Wallet from DRAKENSBERG – the ideal gift for men with a thirst for adventure

Are you looking for an unusual wallet as a gift for a special man? Perhaps you need a Christmas or birthday present for an explorer or a true individualist? Our travel wallets or men's wallets with coin compartments could be the perfect gift. Our travel wallets are equipped with loving details, such as engraved and inspiring travel quotes on the inside of the wallets. Handcrafted unique pieces with a cosmopolitan flair.

What makes DRAKENSBERG men’s wallets special?

When designing our vintage wallets, we take inspiration from historical models from the 19th and early 20th centuries. Our travel organizers made of canvas and leather are as close to the originals as possible. This means that we largely avoid plastic and mainly use cotton and high-quality buffalo leather.

There is currently no well-known brand that could serve as a role model for us. Even the major market leaders in the industry continue to rely on traditional chrome tanning of leather and manipulate the surface texture.

The term "vegan" leather often refers to synthetic material. It is rare to find imitation leather that is actually made from 100% plant-based materials. Unfortunately, the term "natural leather" is often overused these days. For us, leather that is reinforced with foam does not meet the criteria of "natural leather" but rather falls into the category of inferior leather. We consistently use full-grain buffalo leather for our leather toiletry bags.

In the 21st century, a high-quality men's wallet should not only be functional, but also convey an authentic and honest feeling and not make empty promises. At DRAKENSBERG, we largely avoid plastic. Our leather and canvas are not coated with plastic. Our fabrics do not contain any plastic fibers. The leather we use is sustainably vegetable tanned, although not entirely without chrome. Our products are unique, have rough edges, but above all, character.

Which color is suitable for men's wallets?

Choosing the color for your men's wallet depends on your personal preferences, style and practical considerations.

Black:

Black is timeless and gives an elegant and serious touch. A black wallet is perfect for formal occasions and is extremely versatile.

Brown:

Brown tones usually exude a warm and natural atmosphere that goes well with a casual or business look. The range extends from rustic to sophisticated.

Khaki-Beige:

Light brown tones convey a relaxed and casual impression. They are ideal for everyday use and can be easily combined with different outfits.

Olive green:

This military-inspired shade has become a staple in many men's wardrobes. As an alternative to navy, black and brown, olive green adds a refreshing accent without being over the top. Our Travis model shows how good olive green can look.

What should definitely be in a men’s wallet?

A men's wallet should usually contain some basic items that you need for daily use and financial transactions. Here are some important elements:

Banknotes and coins: Of course, the wallet is primarily used to store cash.

Bank and credit cards: Debit or credit cards that you can use to make purchases and withdraw money.

Identity card or driving license: A valid photo ID for identification.

Health insurance card: A card or documents needed for medical care in case of illness.

Emergency contacts: A piece of paper or card with important emergency contacts in case you lose your phone or it doesn't work.

Public transport card: A ticket or card for local public transport, especially if you use it regularly.

Coupons or loyalty cards: If you regularly shop at certain stores, coupons or loyalty cards for discounts or rewards can be useful.

Small change: coins for small purchases or parking machines.

Notes or shopping lists: Small notes or lists that you need to remember.

Business cards: Your own business cards to hand out when needed.

Be careful not to overload your wallet to avoid clutter. Customize the contents to suit your individual needs and keep important personal and financial information safe. RFID protection can be helpful to prevent fraudulent reading of your cards.

What is the difference between a purse and a wallet?

Basically, both terms refer to a small bag or case for storing means of payment such as banknotes, coins or payment cards as well as identification documents. There is no significant difference. The different terms arise only from regional linguistic peculiarities. In the north of Germany, in the eastern part of Belgium, in Luxembourg and in Switzerland, people tend to speak of a wallet or purse, sometimes also of a portmonnee. The term "porte-monnaie" comes from French and refers primarily to bags for storing money. A classic men's wallet according to German ideas corresponds more to a "portefeuille" in France. In the southern part of Germany, however, the term money bag is usually used. In Austria, money bag or purse is more common.

Where do men usually carry their leather wallets?

Traditionally, men carry their wallet in their right trouser pocket. Alternatively, it can be placed in the inside pocket of a jacket or blazer. However, since the advent of smartphones, wallets have faced competition for "space in the trousers". If you add a bulky bunch of keys to the mix, the totality of these valuables can spoil the look of an outfit. Small men's cross bags or the increasingly popular bum bags or breast pouches can help here.

What makes a high-quality leather men’s wallet?

A men's leather wallet is an investment for life and a reliable companion in everyday life. Hardly any other object is picked up so often. Hardly any accessory stores such important documents as a wallet. In addition to cash and ID cards, the wallet is also used to store memories and photos of our loved ones. We therefore recommend that you not only pay attention to functionality and quality when making your choice, but also consider the emotional aspect. A good wallet therefore also has a spiritual component, an emotional value. Because "You can only see well with your heart. The essential is invisible to the eye."

What types of wallets are there for men?

Essentially, men's wallets can be divided into three size categories:

  1. Mini purses or slim wallets (up to 8 x 10 cm)
  2. Compact wallets (up to 12 x 11 cm)
  3. Large wallets (13 x 24cm)
  4. Money clip

Mini purses and slim wallets offer space for essentials and take up little room in trousers or jackets. Coins often don't fit in these minimalist mini purses. Slim wallets are particularly suitable for storing cards and cashless payment methods.

Compact wallets are the traditional wallets. They can hold 8-14 cards, banknotes and coins. They can also have space for trading cards, ID cards and driving licenses.

Large wallets or travel wallets are spacious and rectangular in shape. They are perfect for organizing travel documents, means of payment, foreign currency, boarding passes and passports.

A money clip is a metal clip that can be used to attach banknotes and cards. Technically speaking, they are not traditional wallets, but there is no doubt that they are extremely practical.
