What is special about DRAKENSBERG wallets?
When designing our vintage wallets, we take historical models from the 19th and early 20th centuries as our guide. When designing our leather travel organizers, we stayed as close to the originals as possible. This means that we avoid using plastics as much as possible and mainly use cotton and full-grain buffalo leather for the construction.
What color is ideal for wallets?
The color choice for your wallet depends on your personal preferences, style preferences and practical considerations.
Black:
Black is a classic and timeless color that exudes elegance and seriousness. A black wallet goes well with formal occasions and is versatile.
Brown:
Browns are generally warm and natural colors that work well with a casual or business style. Shades of brown can vary from rustic to sophisticated.
Khaki-Beige:
Light brown tones can convey a more relaxed and casual look. They are ideal for everyday wear and can go well with different outfits.
Olive green:
It's hard to imagine people's wardrobes without this military-inspired shade, which is a perfect alternative to navy blue, black and brown. A refreshing splash of colour without being too over the top. Olive green looks great on our Travis model.
What absolutely belongs in a wallet?
Your wallet usually contains some basic items that you need for daily use and financial transactions. Here are some important items:
- Banknotes and coins: Obviously the main purpose of your wallet – storing cash.
- Bank and credit cards: Debit or payment cards that you can use to make purchases and withdraw money.
- Identity card or driving license: A valid photo ID for identification.
- Health insurance card: A card or document that you can use to obtain medical care in case of illness.
- Emergency contacts: A piece of paper or card with important emergency contacts in case you lose your phone or it doesn't work.
- Public transport card: A ticket or card for public transport if you use it regularly.
- Coupons or loyalty cards: If you shop at certain stores frequently, you might want to carry coupons or loyalty cards for discounts or rewards.
- Small change: coins for small purchases or parking machines.
- Notes or shopping lists: Small notes or lists that you need to remember.
- Business cards: Your own business cards to hand out on occasions.
Be careful not to overload your leather wallet to avoid clutter. Adjust the contents to suit your individual needs and make sure to keep important personal and financial information safe. RFID protection can be helpful to prevent fraudulent reading of your cards.
What is the difference between a purse and a wallet?
In principle, both terms mean a small bag or case for storing means of payment, such as banknotes, coins, payment cards and identification documents. There is no significant difference. The different terms arise purely from regional usage. In the upper half of Germany, in the eastern part of Belgium, Luxembourg and Switzerland, people tend to say wallet or portemonee, or even portmonnee. The term "porte-monnaie" comes from French and in France it mainly refers to bags for storing money. A classic men's leather wallet according to German ideas is more like a "portefeuille" in France. In the south of Germany, "wallet" is the most commonly used term. In Austria, "money bag" or "purse" is common.
Where do men carry their wallets?
Leather wallets are traditionally carried by men in the right trouser pocket. Alternatively, they can be carried in the inside pocket of a jacket or blazer. Since the rise of smartphones, however, wallets have had competition for space in the trousers. If you add an opulent bunch of keys to the mix, these valuables will ruin any outfit. Small men's cross-bags or the increasingly popular bum bags or breast pouches can help.
What is a good men’s wallet?
A leather wallet is a purchase for an entire period of life and a faithful companion in everyday life. Hardly any object is picked up more often. Hardly any accessory contains more important documents than a wallet. In addition to money and ID documents, we also use wallets to store memories and photos of our favorite people. We therefore recommend that you let your heart help you make a purchase decision, in addition to function and quality. A good wallet therefore also has a soul factor, an emotional value. Because "you can only see well with your heart. What is essential is invisible to the eye."
What types of wallets are there for men?
Basically, men’s wallets can be divided into four size groups:
- Mini wallets or slim wallets (up to 8 x 10cm)
- Compact wallets (up to 12 x 11cm)
- Large wallets (13 x 24cm)
- Money clip
Mini purses and slim wallets offer compartments for essentials and take up little space in your trousers or jacket. However, coins usually don't fit in these puristic mini purses. Slim wallets are primarily suitable for storing cards and card payment methods.
Compact wallets are the classic wallets. They have compartments for 8-14 cards, banknotes and coins. Trading cards, ID and driving license can also be stored.
Large wallets or travel wallets are spacious and rectangular in shape and are suitable for organizing travel documents, means of payment, foreign currency, boarding passes and passports.
Money clips are metal clips in which banknotes and cards can be secured. Strictly speaking, they are not real wallets, but they are practical.
