our contribution

Soziale Verantwortung bei DRAKENSBERG

Our many trips have always shown us how great and diverse our world is. We have been amazed, laughed, learned and discovered new horizons. Unfortunately, many trips have also shown us how unequally resources are distributed in the world. How lucky we are to have been born and raised in a wealthy country. Every trip has made us more aware of this and also more thoughtful.

This has not made us ideologues and we continue to believe in the good in this world. Nevertheless, we feel obliged to make a contribution. Because it is our responsibility as travelers and our responsibility as entrepreneurs. And because we want to give back some of our happiness. Happiness is the only thing that doubles when you share it.

We are currently just starting out with our small company. However, we are certain that we will do everything we can to get involved. It is important to us that our products are bought because our customers like them and they are useful. Not because we do good things. We would rather use our convictions to inspire other people to share their happiness and to make this world a little better together with us.

WAS WIR HEUTE SCHON TUN:

Wealth and poverty are closely linked in the Indian capital of New Delhi. Poverty hits the children living there the hardest. Begging girls and boys with little to nothing to eat are unfortunately a sad everyday occurrence on the streets of the city. None of these children have the opportunity to go to school, receive medical care, or have any prospect of improvement.

The Sunshine Project looks after 265 underprivileged children who live in the slum. In addition to essential things such as food, clean drinking water, medical care and clothing, the main concern is to ensure a solid education. Not only the children, but also their families benefit from the positive development.

Former "Sunshine Children" are now able to support parents and siblings, counteract alienation within the family and maintain respectful relationships with one another. The "Sunshine Children" receive support until they successfully complete their high school diploma or an apprenticeship. Many then go on to attend university or find fulfillment in a skilled trades career.

We support the Sunshine Project and know first-hand that all funds go exactly where they are most urgently needed. We are happy about everyone who follows our example and wants to support the children in New Delhi. You can easily donate or become a sponsor on the Help Alliance Sunshine Project website. Any help is welcome.

The production of our goods takes place in India, in the area around New Delhi.
Our factory is a small family business whose long-standing employees make our bags with a lot of heart and passion. Craftsmanship has a long tradition here and is passed down from generation to generation. Since we visit the site regularly and several times a year, our long-term collaboration has now developed into a real friendship.

Precisely because we respect the dignity of every person, we attach great importance to ensuring that all workers are paid fairly and justly and that their families are well looked after. Our factory has been regularly audited according to the SEDEX standard for years. We can therefore guarantee compliance with fair working conditions and occupational health and safety.

We can proudly and confidently claim that we have found the perfect manufacturer for us. One that not only shares our values, but also ensures that the working conditions are above average and more than socially acceptable.

More about production

Our leather and cotton fabrics come locally from India. When dyeing our cotton fabrics, we only use dyes that are free of AZO dyes. Our leather is vegetable tanned, i.e. with the help of vegetable tanning agents.

Our leather tannery is certified according to the LWG Silver Standard.
The Leather Working Group (LWG) is an initiative to make conditions in tanneries and middlemen more transparent and to sustainably improve them.

We focus on natural and sustainable materials and avoid plastics wherever possible. All of this makes our products particularly robust and durable.

However, it is our aim to continue to work on ourselves and to further improve our ecological and social “footprint”.

more about LWG

We have been producing our own electricity ever since we were founded. There is a 40KW solar power system on the roof of our headquarters in Lustadt. We feed the surplus electricity into the local power grid.

In cooperation with DHL and the GoGreen initiative, we deliver 100% climate neutral for all shipments within Germany.

  • The emissions caused by shipping are offset by worldwide projects.
  • Our packages are only picked up once a day from our headquarters. This saves us having to make separate trips and the DHL driver comes by anyway.
  • We also ship to packing stations to save unnecessary journeys.

Of course, free of charge for our customers!
