More than a Weekender

The Weekender "David" (60) is inspired by the original spirit of travel – made for life-changing adventures. Crafted from high-quality leather and water-repellent cotton, and equipped with sophisticated details such as expandable volume and diamond stitching, it's a timeless companion for trips lasting up to seven days.

Expandable to 80 liters

More space when you need it: The Canvas Weekender "David (60)" offers a clever volume system. Standard capacity is 60 liters – perfect for short trips or business travel. However, with a few simple steps, you can expand the bag to a generous 80 liters. This ensures you always have enough space, whether for a weekend getaway or a long journey.

Water-repellent

The "David (60)" weekender is water-repellent thanks to its lotus effect impregnation and protects against rain and moisture. The canvas is impregnated during production. The cotton used is from German production and meets the highest environmental and safety standards (GOTS, GRS & OCS Scope, ISO 9001, 14001, 45001).

Artisan Perfection

Every weekender is a statement: This travel bag impresses with its craftsmanship, such as the characteristic diamond quilting on the bottom. This elaborate detail not only gives the design an unmistakable look, but also increases its durability. A true masterpiece of traditional leather craftsmanship.

Proven design

Made to last for decades: The »David« weekender combines classic design with special constructions designed for maximum durability. For maximum load capacity: The weekender's handles feature a particularly robust construction – multiple stitched seams, additional rivets, and attached to generous leather reinforcement. This traditional craftsmanship detail ensures that the bag can be carried safely and comfortably even when fully loaded.

The value of a good trip

Our story

We are Daniel and Christoph – two very different people with a shared passion: traveling. With DRAKENSBERG, we want to inspire people to discover the true value of being on the road: to see the journey as the destination and to grow from it. Because we believe that a good journey can change a life. Our own journey began almost 20 years ago when we set off by car from Cape Town to the Drakensberg – and yet never arrived.

Product philosophy

Our philosophy rests on four pillars: Timeless design, inspired by icons of the 19th and 20th centuries. Traditional craftsmanship, using proven techniques to make each piece unique. Natural, sustainable materials such as vegetable-tanned leather and pure cotton – quality you can feel. And fair production, which guarantees ethics and responsibility at every step.

Frequently Asked Questions

How many days' worth of clothes can fit in the Canvas Weekender »David« (60)?

The Canvas Weekender "David" (60) offers a generous capacity of 60 liters, making it ideal for trips of 5 to 7 days. However, the exact number of days may vary depending on whether you pack summer or winter clothes.

In summer, when clothing is lighter and less bulky, you can easily pack for 6 to 7 days, including changes of clothes, shoes, and perhaps even some accessories. In winter, however, when thicker clothing such as sweaters, jackets, and boots are required, the space in the Canvas Weekender is more likely to be sufficient for 5 to a maximum of 6 days.

Can I take the Canvas Weekender "David" (60) as carry-on luggage on the plane?

Unfortunately, the Canvas Weekender "David" (60) does not comply with the standard hand luggage dimensions of most airlines. However, we haven't had any problems taking it on board so far, as long as it's not fully packed. Nevertheless, we recommend the smaller version, the Canvas Weekender "David" (M), for hand luggage. This more compact version better meets airline regulations.

For comparison: The Canvas Weekender "David" (L) offers a capacity of 60 liters and a total length of 59 cm, making it perfect for trips of 5-7 days. The more compact version, the Canvas Weekender "David" (M), is 55 cm long and has a capacity sufficient for 3-4 days.

How do I properly care for the Canvas Weekender "David" (60)?

The vintage look of the Canvas Weekender may show signs of use. If you still want to clean it, we recommend the following steps:

1. Remove dust and dirt particles with a brush or handheld vacuum cleaner.

2. Dab stains with a damp cloth and rub gently. For stubborn stains, a mild soap solution can help.

3. Regularly care for the leather on the trimmings with a suitable care product (e.g. beeswax or carnauba wax). Always test on an inconspicuous area first.

What is the best weekender on the market?

The Canvas Weekender "David" (60) impresses with its high-quality materials and the meticulous craftsmanship that goes into its production. It is made of robust canvas and vegetable-tanned leather, which is durable and develops a unique patina over the years. Production takes place in a family-run business in India that maintains exceptionally high social and ecological standards. This awareness of sustainability and quality, combined with the timeless design, makes the Weekender "David" (60) an outstanding product on the market. Whether it's the best weekender for you depends on your personal preferences and requirements. If you value traditional craftsmanship, sustainable materials, and a sophisticated, authentic design, this weekender is certainly one of the best decisions you can make.
