Which handbags are currently in fashion?

We think that there are bag designs that will always be in fashion. Timeless classics. Some real design icons have been produced for over 100 years and will probably continue to be produced for another 100 years.

Fast fashion no longer fits into our time anyway. A time in which people are thinking more and more about sustainability and the sensible use of resources.

We therefore advocate slow fashion. For us, slow fashion means producing products that have the longest possible lifespan and design lifetime. Yesterday's products for tomorrow's world.

Which bag brand is the best?

DRAKENSBERG bags are everything, but not ordinary. Sustainability is not an advertising slogan for us, but part of the design. We are concerned with authentic canvas handbags that could have been made in a similar form 200 years ago. In other words, with natural materials, without plastic.

At the moment, there is actually no bag manufacturer that could serve as a role model for us. Even the big brands continue to use the classic chrome tanning process and treat the surfaces of the leather. Also widespread in the industry is plastic lamination, in which a higher material thickness of the leather is imitated with a foam insert.

In any case, "vegan" leather often conceals commercially available plastic. It is very rare to find leather-like materials that are actually made 100% from plants. Unfortunately, the term "natural leather" is also currently out of date. For us, leather that is reinforced with foam is not "natural leather" but an inferior leather.

In the 21st century, a good handbag should also convey a good and honest feeling and should not make empty promises. We do not use synthetic materials in DRAKENSBERG bags as far as possible. Our leather or canvas is not laminated with plastic. Our outer fabrics do not contain any plastic fibres. The leather used is sustainably vegetable tanned, even if not entirely without chrome. An original with rough edges, but with a high emotional value.
