About the product

Messenger bag »Mila« is a sporty cross-body bag for valuables, cameras, binoculars, smartphones, tablet PCs or other small items. Ideal for spontaneous exploration tours. In addition to plenty of storage space, »Mila« offers two storage compartments inside: a zip compartment and an open compartment for mobile phones or small cameras. On the back of the bag is another zipped compartment for access to documents such as maps or travel guides.

The shoulder bag can be worn across the shoulder for comfortable carrying over a longer period of time. The shoulder strap can be removed if necessary.

The hand bag has a high quality finish. All wear points are lined with leather on the outside. All stress points are additionally reinforced.

We are Daniel and Christoph and live our dream. We founded DRAKENSBERG because we want to inspire people to recognize the true value of travel and to strive for it.

Our travel bags are silent reminders of the travel spirit of the 19th and 20th century, when traveling was still an adventure and travelers were adventurers.

Maybe you have already noticed, our bags are different. Each product is an elaborately manufactured unique piece with its own little story. The bags are almost completely handmade. We only use high quality leather and natural materials. Paying attention to sustainability and environment.

Leather is a natural material and can have small irregularities. Each leather product is also patinated by hand. This elaborate process makes our products trademarked. No bag can be exactly same as another. Thus, small colour deviations are unfortunately unavoidable and are not a sign of poor quality, but uniqueness.

<h3><b>Is the "Mila" Courier Bag, Olive Green, Structurally Stable or Rather Soft?</b></h3> <p>Our Canvas Messenger Bag is categorized as soft luggage and is partially made of soft olive-green cotton canvas. Therefore, its shape changes slightly depending on how much it is filled. The advantage is that the vintage shoulder bag for men can be easily stowed away when not in use. We deliberately avoid using plastic coating in our handbags, which would otherwise be required for a rigid form.</p> <p> </p> <h3><b>Is the "Mila" Courier Bag, Olive Green, Waterproof or Water-Resistant?</b></h3> <p>The men's shoulder bag made of canvas and leather is designed after the classic courier and postman bags of the 19th century. To be as authentic as possible, we only use materials used 100 years ago and avoid plastics and chemicals. Unfortunately, our canvas bag is neither waterproof nor water-resistant in its standard version. However, our bags can withstand a brief rain shower. Alternatively, the shoulder bag can be impregnated against moisture.</p> <p> </p> <h3><b>Can the "Mila" Courier Bag, Olive Green, Be Made Waterproof Afterwards?</b></h3> <p>The canvas shoulder bag can be easily impregnated later with a standard, colorless impregnating spray (e.g., Impru00e4gnol). Alternatively, you can also use an impregnating wax (e.g., Dr. Gee's Impregnating Wax). Just keep in mind that the color and texture of the bag may change as a result. It's best to test the impregnation on the bottom of the bag.</p> <p> </p> <h3><b>What Material is Canvas, Used for the "Mila" Courier Bag, Olive Green?</b></h3> <p>Genuine canvas is a tightly woven cotton fabric starting at a weight of about 8oz or 225/m2. This fabric was historically used primarily in sailing for sails and in the industry for work clothes and leather goods. Equally popular is the material also in painting. Almost all famous paintings in the world were painted on canvas. A "canvas" is therefore another term for canvas. Unfortunately, canvas was eventually replaced by plastic in many applications. That's the point. Should you still feel the need to clean your bag, we recommend the following three steps:</p> <ul> <li>Clean the handbag from dust and dirt particles, e.g., with a brush or handheld vacuum.</li> <li>Gently dab and rub out stains with a clean, wet cloth. If the stains are stubborn, you might try a gentle soap solution.</li> <li>Occasionally lightly grease the leather (e.g., leather care with beeswax or carnauba wax). Be careful not to get the canvas dirty to avoid stains.</li> </ul> <p> </p> <h3><b>What Leather is Used for the "Mila" Courier Bag, Olive Green?</b></h3> <p>For the men's handbag, we exclusively use vegetable-tanned and full-grain buffalo leather. This particularly robust leather comes from India. During production, our leather is also hand-finished with a colored wax based on carnauba, thus acquiring its special vintage patina. A perfect interplay with our cotton canvas.</p> <p> </p> <h3><b>How Do Men Best Carry the "Mila" Courier Bag, Olive Green?</b></h3> <p>A shoulder bag can simply be worn over the shoulder or cross-body. We recommend carrying our men's shoulder bags made of canvas and leather cross-body, as this distributes the weight of the bag more evenly. It is less strenuous if you have to cover longer distances with the bag over your shoulder. Generally, you should alternate the sides you carry the bag on during longer journeys, to evenly distribute and thus relieve the load on your back and spine.</p> <p>In general, you should not overload briefcases and shoulder bags. Before starting a journey or heading to work, you should check what you really need for the day. This is easier on your back and the material.</p> <p> </p> <h3><b>Where and How is the "Mila" Courier Bag, Olive Green, Made?</b></h3> <p>Our goods are made in India. Our manufacturing facility is a small family business whose long-standing employees craft our bags with much heart and passion. A genuine friendship has grown from our long-term cooperation. The conditions of production are socially acceptable and meet BSCI standards. We personally ensure this regularly. Our leather and cotton fabrics are sourced locally from India. For dyeing our cotton fabrics, we exclusively use dyes that are free from AZO colors. Our leathers are naturally vegetable-tanned, that is, plant-based and without the use of aggressive tanning agents. Our standards are socially and ecologically justifiable and above average. However, it is our claim to continue to work on ourselves and further improve our ecological and social "footprint."</p>




Our leather production is LWG certified

Our leather tannery is certified to the LWG standard and we use only vegetable tanning agents for tanning. The Leather Working Group (LWG) is an initiative to make conditions in tanneries and intermediaries more transparent and to bring about sustainable change. To implement its goals, the Leather Working Group has developed an audit protocol for sustainable and responsible leather production.
