Looking for a purist but individual backpack for every day? Congratulations, you've found it! Our backpack »Henrietta« is an absolute all-rounder and the perfect companion for every situation. Its dimensions make it equally suitable for men and women. And with a capacity of 20 litres inside, it's not tight at all. A4 binders and documents fit just as well as laptops and tablet PCs up to 13 inches.

The daypack has two adjustable shoulder straps. On the outside, there are two patch utility pockets with quick-release fasteners. Inside, a spacious zipped compartment offers space for a smartphone, wallet and keys.

The backpack has a high-quality finish and is almost entirely handmade. All stress points are additionally reinforced. The back of the backpack is padded and elaborately quilted.

We are Daniel and Christoph and live our dream. We founded DRAKENSBERG because we want to inspire people to recognize the true value of travel and to strive for it.

To understand the path as the true goal and to grow on it. A good journey means learning. About life and about yourself. We know that a good journey can change a whole life. Our travel bags are silent reminders of the travel spirit of the 19th and 20th century, when traveling was still an adventure and travelers were adventurers.

Handmade

Maybe you have already noticed, our bags are different. Each product is an elaborately manufactured unique piece with its own little story. The bags are almost completely handmade. We only use high quality leather and natural materials. Paying attention to sustainability and environment.

Leather is a natural material and can have small irregularities. Each leather product is also patinated by hand. This elaborate process makes our products trademarked. No bag can be exactly same as another. Thus, small colour deviations are unfortunately unavoidable and are not a sign of poor quality, but uniqueness.

It is the ideal carry-on luggage for almost any mode of transportation.</p> <h3><b>Is the "Henrietta" backpack, cream-white, structurally stable or rather soft?</b></h3> <p>Our canvas backpack belongs to the category of soft luggage and is partly made of soft cream-white cotton canvas. Therefore, its shape may change slightly depending on the amount of items inside. The advantage is that the vintage backpack can be easily stored when not in use. We consciously avoid using plastic laminations in our bags, which are required for a rigid structure.</p> <h3><b>Is the canvas backpack "Henrietta," cream-white, waterproof or water-repellent?</b></h3> <p>The backpack made of canvas and leather is designed based on the classic mountain and hunting backpacks of the 19th century. In order to be as authentic as possible, we use materials that were used 100 years ago and try to minimize the use of plastics and chemicals. Unfortunately, our standard canvas backpack is not waterproof or water-repellent. However, it can withstand a brief rain shower. Alternatively, the backpack can be treated with water repellent spray or wax.</p> <h3><b>Can I make the "Henrietta" canvas backpack, cream-white, waterproof afterwards?</b></h3> <p>The backpack can be effectively waterproofed afterwards using a commercially available, colorless water repellent spray (e.g., Impru00e4gnol). Alternatively, an impregnating wax (e.g., Dr. Gee's Impru00e4gnierwachs) can also be used. However, please note that this may change the color and texture of the bag. That's how it should be. The production conditions comply with social standards and adhere to BSCI guidelines, which we personally verify regularly. Our leather and cotton fabrics are locally sourced in India. When dyeing our cotton fabric, only colorants free from AZO dyes are used. Our leather is primarily vegetable-tanned, meaning it is tanned using plant-based materials without the use of aggressive tanning agents. Our standards are socially and environmentally responsible and above average. However, we strive to continually improve and enhance our ecological and social footprint.</p>




Our leather production is LWG certified

Our leather tannery is certified to the LWG standard and we use only vegetable tanning agents for tanning. The Leather Working Group (LWG) is an initiative to make conditions in tanneries and intermediaries more transparent and to bring about sustainable change. To implement its goals, the Leather Working Group has developed an audit protocol for sustainable and responsible leather production.
