The bag can be worn comfortably as a backpack or across the shoulder with the shoulder strap closed, which is adjustable in length. The sling bag is particularly practical when travelling.

The backpack has a high quality finish. All wear points are lined with leather on the outside. All stress points are additionally reinforced. A highlight for everyday.

We are Daniel and Christoph and live our dream. We founded DRAKENSBERG because we want to inspire people to recognize the true value of travel and to strive for it.

To understand the path as the true goal and to grow on it. A good journey means learning. About life and about yourself. We know that a good journey can change a whole life. Our travel bags are silent reminders of the travel spirit of the 19th and 20th century, when traveling was still an adventure and travelers were adventurers.

Handmade

Maybe you have already noticed, our bags are different. Each product is an elaborately manufactured unique piece with its own little story. The bags are almost completely handmade. We only use high quality leather and natural materials. Paying attention to sustainability and environment.

Leather is a natural material and can have small irregularities. Each leather product is also patinated by hand. This elaborate process makes our products trademarked. No bag can be exactly same as another. Thus, small colour deviations are unfortunately unavoidable and are not a sign of poor quality, but uniqueness.

The backpack is the ideal carry-on baggage for almost any mode of transportation.</p> <p></p> <h3><b>Is the backpack "Alma" offwhite, structurally rigid or rather soft?</b></h3> <p>Our canvas backpack belongs to the category of soft luggage and is partly made of soft offwhite cotton canvas. Therefore, the shape changes slightly depending on the filling quantity. The advantage is that the vintage backpack can be better stored if not needed. We deliberately avoid using plastic lamination in our bags, which is required for a rigid structure.</p> <p></p> <h3><b>Is the canvas backpack "Alma" offwhite, waterproof or water-resistant?</b></h3> <p>The backpack made of canvas and leather is designed based on the classic mountain and hunting backpacks of the 19th century. To be as authentic as possible, we exclusively use materials similar to those used 100 years ago and try to minimize the use of plastics and chemicals. Unfortunately, our standard version of the canvas backpack is not waterproof or water-resistant. However, a short rain shower does not harm our bags. Alternatively, the backpack can be treated with a water repellent spray.</p> <p></p> <h3><b>Can the backpack "Alma" offwhite, be made waterproof afterwards?</b></h3> <p>The backpack can be easily waterproofed afterwards using a common and colorless water repellent spray (e.g., Impru00e4gnol). Alternatively, you can use a waterproofing wax (e.g., Dr. Gee's waterproofing wax). Please note that this may change the color and texture of the bag. It is best to test the waterproofing on the back of the bag.</p> <p></p> <h3><b>How can I clean and maintain my backpack "Alma," offwhite?</b></h3> <p>We believe that a backpack in vintage design should show the intensity of its use. That's how it should be. However, if you still feel the need to clean your bag, we recommend three steps:</p> <ul> <li>Remove dust and dirt particles from the backpack, for example, with a brush or a handheld vacuum cleaner.</li> <li>Gently dab and rub stains with a clean, damp cloth. You can try using a mild detergent if the stains are stubborn.</li> <li>Occasionally lightly grease the leather (e.g., leather care with beeswax or carnauba wax). Take care not to apply the grease on the canvas to avoid stains.</li></ul> <p></p> <h3><b>What leather is used for the backpack "Alma" offwhite?</b></h3> <p>For the backpack, we exclusively use vegetable-tanned and full-grain buffalo leather. The particularly robust leather comes from India. During production, our leather is additionally hand-finished with a colored wax based on carnauba and obtains its special vintage patina. Our workshop is a small family business where our long-term employees passionately craft our bags with great care. Over time, our long-standing collaboration has grown into a genuine friendship. The production conditions are socially acceptable and comply with BSCI standards. We regularly personally verify this. Our leather and cotton fabrics are sourced locally in India. Only dyes free from AZO colorants are used for coloring our cotton fabrics. Our leather is fundamentally vegetable-tanned, meaning it is based on plant extracts and does not involve the use of aggressive tanning agents. Our standards are socially and ecologically responsible and above average. However, we strive to continue working on ourselves and further improve our ecological and social footprint.</p>




Our leather production is LWG certified

Our leather tannery is certified to the LWG standard and we use only vegetable tanning agents for tanning. The Leather Working Group (LWG) is an initiative to make conditions in tanneries and intermediaries more transparent and to bring about sustainable change. To implement its goals, the Leather Working Group has developed an audit protocol for sustainable and responsible leather production.
